LG Modestly Upgrades 10.1-Inch G Pad

The LG’s G Pad series, most known as a copy of the Google Nexus 7, has upgraded to the new G Pad II. The G Pad II, unfortunately, won’t be able to make it to the IFA 2015 in Berlin. It’s not quite clear on prices and usability just yet, but we may be looking at a pretty cheap tablet. The Snapdragon 800, which is the G Pad’s processor, is almost 2 years old, but they have it running on Android 5.1.1 Lollipop. It also has a 10.1-inch screen that uses about 224 pixels-per-inch, which doesn’t even compare to the upcoming Samsung’s 9.7-inch Galaxy Tab S2.

LG G PadJust about the only thing that’s cool about this device is its decent battery life. It’s a 7,400 mAh battery with a more energy-efficient processor. The only color option you get to choose from is bronze, that’s it. The G Pad II will also be including an e-reading mode that reduces blue light output. They claim this will let your read for hours without getting a headache.

This tablet doesn’t seem like the most thrilling new device on the market. iPads and Android tablets are only getting bigger and better. If you don’t want to put all that money into a full-blown Android tablet and just want a cheap tablet that runs the latest Android with an “ok” battery life, then you’re best bet would be the G Pad II.

Microsoft Surface Pro 3 Has Big Plans For The NFL

Did you know that the NFL has been using Surface tablets for over a year now to help assist coaches with the analyzation of plays? In short, coaches used to (and some still) use printers for pictures of plays so coaches, players, and other staff can look over which formations teams use throughout the game taken via cameras in the end zones and high up at midfield. Nowadays Surface 2 tablets are used in order to get the images during plays rather than after, plus the staff doesn’t have to wait for the printers to print.

You might think using tablets on the sidelines is a little over the top for the NFL, but the tech frenzy doesn’t stop there. Microsoft is actually introducing the HoloLens for virtual reality training systems.

But what about the fans? Microsoft is rolling out its new version of its Xbox One NFL app, which is also making its way to Windows 10 later this month. The NFL is launching its Game Pass service, which replaces Game Rewind from last year, for $9.99 per month. Don’t worry, game stats, fantasy stats, and highlights will still be offered for free.

Look Out Leap Motion, Google’s New Tablet Can Motion Track Too!

tangoI’m the type of tech nerd that is all about embracing the future of technology. I look at new ideas with hope and wonderment, wishing that they will do something that has not been done before. Some may call this wishful thinking, and to an extent, I’d have to agree with them. There has to be something really crazy created in order to change the mobile technology game, especially in the tablet market. Every tablet has the “latest processor” or microSD storage on top of their 128GB of storage. There’s not been too much to add… until now. Google has decided to come in and stir things up a bit.

So what is it that Google has decided to do to shake up the pot? Four words that have me pretty excited: 3D and motion sensing.

Now I know this isn’t the first time we’ve seen this. The Leap Motion Controller is a device that is able to track depth and user hand motion, basically a way to control your computer without the need of a mouse. This is a cool concept if done correctly with adequate responsiveness. Google has decided to add their own version of motion sensing and 3D-sensing technology into a brand new tablet that they have in development.

Google has recently come up with a tech project called Project Tango that is slated to bring us new mobile technology with the addition of motion and depth tracking/sensing capabilities. Currently, the new tablet is in the prototype stage, so there isn’t much that can be determined. What can be confirmed is that it will come with 4GB of RAM, 128GB of storage, and a decent number of cameras. The cameras are where this new tablet starts to take flight. If you take a look at the new promotional video for the tablet, you’ll see that there are three cameras and an integrated depth sensor. The two cameras on the back work with the integrated depth sensor to allow for applications that can implement full 3D motion tracking directly on the tablet. In terms of processing power, this new “Project Tango” tablet will have the latest NVIDIA Tegra K1 processor.

Since the tablet is still in the prototype phase, it’s being distributed to a select developers with a software development kit just to see what can be created. There will be some 4,000 (rumored) prototypes delivered before the Google I/O conference later this month. Hopefully during that conference, the developers will have come up with something to show us. Needless to say, I’m a bit excited for this.

The price tag just for the prototype of this tablet is $1,024, so if developers are interested in working with this new tech and putting the software development kit to good use, then they’d better be ready to spend a pretty penny to make it all work. Even still, it would be a small price to pay if something incredible were to blossom from it.

Motion tracking technology is just an all-around cool concept. Who doesn’t want the ability to feel like their device is more an extension of their body rather than just a…. device. We will be able to see what this new tablet could be all about and how the software could work (hopefully) later this month at this year’s Google I/O.

Android 5 Release Date, Rumors, And News

Android 5 is just around the corner, and it’s going to bring many exciting changes. There is no official name yet, and some rumors have even said that it may just be called Android 4.5. This is anyone’s guess here, but there are a few things that we can probably count on. Many facts and rumors have surfaced throughout the internet, and here are some of the things you can look forward to.

Android 5 release date

Back in late 2013, everyone had assumed that Android 5 would be released in October. Instead though, the only thing that was released was Android 4.4 KitKat. Now, it’s looking like the newest version of Android is going to be dropping in mid 2014. It will probably be at Google IO, which is a huge two day developer conference in San Francisco that happens every year. People expected to see it at last years Google IO as well, so that raises the likelihood even more.

Google doesn’t generally announce big new items or operating systems during the conference, but it would fall around the 6-7 month mark from when the last update was released, so it actually makes the most sense.
For a long time, there were reports saying that Google Babble would come out along with Android 5. It is basically an app that will combine a lot of different chat services like Talk, Hangout, Voice, Messenger, Chat for Google Drive and Google+. It is highly anticipated and should make life a little bit easier.

As it turns out, “Google Babble” wasn’t even the correct name for the app, and it already came out on Android 2.3 and up. So much for that rumor, right?

It is also said that the next version of Android will have a lot of fitness based stuff on it, kind of like Apple products. It seems that more and more devices are incorporating this type of stuff, so Android pretty much has to, just to stay in the game. Future Android tablets and smartphones will have sensors built in to aid in gathering fitness data.

Another crazy rumor that is going around is that Android devices are going to start using the Google Chrome OS on their high end devices, and the new Android on their lower end models. Who knows if that is true, but it wouldn’t seem to make a whole lot of sense. It would require a lot of extra work, with app integration and everything.

Whatever ends up being true or false, Android 5 is for sure going to be a huge, exciting step up for all of us. I can’t wait to check it out hands on.
