iPad Air 4

Introduced in September and formally released in October 2020, the iPad Air 4 is the latest tablet release from Apple. With a more modern design than the earlier generation, the iPad Air 4 features a similar design to the iPad pro, including a nearly edge-to-edge, 10.9” liquid retina LED display. The newest tablet from Apple also brings compatibility with features not seen on the previous generation of iPad Air, including compatibility with the new Magic Keyboard, the second-generation Apple Pencil, and USB-C. Let’s take a closer look at the new iPad Air 4.

Display and Design

As noted above, the iPad Air 4 boasts a 10.9” liquid retina LED display, similar to the one found in the current iPad Pro, however the display is capped at 60Hz, which is the same found in the previous generation of iPad Air. As far as the display, the 2360 x 1640 resolution absolutely delivers when it comes to the viewing experience. With the wide gamut of P3 color, the iPad Air 4 is able to offer better colors and contrast than the standard iPad. The display also features an anti-reflective coating, True Tone, and full lamination. The laminated display is especially stunning for those using the Apple Pencil, as the content appears closer to the screen. This simulates the feeling of writing on paper.

Also new to this generation of iPad Air, flat edges and slimmer bezels. This design was introduced in Apple’s 3rd generation of iPad Pro tablets, and it also being used on the iPhone 12. Paired with the nearly borderless screen, the iPad Air 4 feels like a modern tablet. Another bonus? Color options are available. The iPad Air 4 is available in silver, space gray, rose gold, green, and blue.

Performance

When compared to the regular iPad or even the previous generations of the iPad Air, the iPad Air 4 doesn’t do anything special that others can’t. However, moving to the A14 Bionic processor, the same chip found in the iPhone 12, the iPad Air 4 has a performance boost over the previous generation. According to Apple, this processor has double the graphics performance over the A12 processor, and is about 20% faster than the A13.

The iPad Air 4 features a 7-megapixel front-facing camera, perfect for those FaceTime calls in a time when we are relying on our tablets and phones to keep us connected to our friends, families, and coworkers. The new iPad Air 4 also boasts a 12MP camera that is capable of filming at 4K video. This is perfect for those who are film editors looking to do some work remotely, or students who are looking for a budget friendly tablet to learn the basics in the film editing industry.

Final Thoughts

With improved performance, better design, and a more beautiful display, the iPad Air 4 is worth a second look for those considering a tablet. It is a perfect fit for a mid-tier tablet between the regular iPad and the iPad Pro for those who are looking for performance, while still wanting to stay budget friendly.

Judges holding up digital scores

With spring in the air, large scale competitions and fairs are just around the corner. From wines and craft beers, to dog and animal shows, to pig and cow judging at county fairs, being a judge for various competitions takes dedication, passion, and more than a little organization. We recently received a request for iPad rentals from the organizers of a cheese contest and a wine contest where all entries will be evaluated through an app, eliminating the need for pencil and paper judging and making final tallying easier when it’s time to announce the winner. Here are just a few ways that our tech rentals can make judging easier for your upcoming competition.

There’s an app for that

Remember, you don’t need to reinvent the wheel when deciding to integrate technology into judging your competition. Your app can even do double duty allowing your event attendees to see standings in real-time, as well as having a schedule for each upcoming section of your competition. Additionally, many questions that attendees or participants may have can be answered through the app – saving your team valuable time on competition day!

For beer judging competitions, BJCP Styles app puts the Beer Judge Certification Program style guidelines at your judges’ fingertips, allowing them to effectively and professionally compare beers of the same style. The BJCP style guidelines are an international standard and using the app puts everyone on the same page from the start of judging.

Planning a car show competition? The eJudged app was built by a group of auto builders and enthusiasts to create a seamless, paperless judging process that makes the judging process easier and faster for promoters, judges, and the audience.

No matter what’s being judged at your event, there is probably already an existing app that you can use to make judging on an iPad, tablet, or smartphone easier.

Judging made easy

When your panel of judges are carting around clipboards and numerous pieces of paper during judging, it can make keeping track of everything much more difficult than it needs to be. Once you’ve found the right app for your event, it’s time to give your judges the tech tools they need to get the job done.

Putting an iPad Pro rental or Samsung Galaxy tablet rental into their hands lets your judges focus more on the competition than on juggling stacks of tally sheets. Especially in fast-paced competitions, judging on tablets allows judges to quickly compare scores and identify any scoring errors in real time. Attendee favorites

While your judges have the final say in who takes home the awards in your competition, there’s something to be said for getting attendees involved in picking the “Fan Favorite”. Having a section of your app set aside for fan-favorite judging instantly creates the opportunity for greater engagement.

Your app can be free for attendees to download (consider having a simple QR code at the entrance to your event or at each station), but you’ll get greater participation if you post voting kiosk rentals at each booth or sporadically throughout the competition site. For fan judging, keep it simple. An easy star rating system allows guests to quickly enter their scores before moving on to the next station.

A great bonus? Allowing attendees access to the app gives you the opportunity to capture contact information like emails for future mailing lists and can give you a better idea of event attendance numbers.
