Released in late August 2020, not many have had the chance to get their hands on the Samsung Galaxy Tab S7. With a price and specs to compete with Apple’s iPad Pro, here we discuss price, design and display, software, hardware, and how Samsung’s latest Galaxy Tab compares to various iPad Pros.

Design and Display

The Samsung Galaxy Tab S7 has a similar appearance to Apple’s iPad Pro. Available in 11” or 12.4” size, this rivals the iPad Pro which comes in 11” or 12.9”. The S7 has an aluminum chassis, sports a small camera stack, and a magnetic strip for the S-Pen on the upper-left side. The S7 also comes with a quad-speaker setup by AKG. The S7 models come in bronze, black, and silver.

Despite the iPad having a larger camera bump, it looks remarkably similar to Samsung’s Galaxy Tab S7. Both 11” and 12”+ models support a 120Hz variable refresh rate and built-in fingerprint sensors. While the Galaxy Tab S7’s 11” has 2,560 x 1,600-pixel resolution, the iPad Pro 11” displays a similar 2,388 x 1,668-pixel resolution. The larger tablets are similar as well, Samsung’s 12.4” displays at 2,800 x 1,752 pixels while Apple’s 12.9” has a 2,732 x 2,048 resolution.

With both tablets exhibiting their own unique display choices like camera placement and color choice, it’s fair to call this round a tie — which is kind of a win for Samsung to finally be in competition with the iPad Pro.

Hardware

Samsung’s latest Galaxy Tab S7 comes packed with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 865+ chipset, which delivers the fastest speeds you’ll find on an Android tablet. Although it comes with two options: 6GB of RAM with 128GB of storage or 8GB of RAM with 256GB of storage, both of Samsung’s new tablets support up to an additional 1TB of external storage with a microSD card. Although we can’t give Samsung the win in this round solely based on expandable storage, they definitely have the leg up because it’s well-known that Apple refuses to allow its users to have the same option, although the iPad Pro does come available in 128GB, 512GB, and 1TB storage options while running the A12Z chipset with 6GB of RAM.

When it comes to battery capacity, Samsung wins again. The Tab S7 has an 8,000mAh capacity battery, while the S7+ has a 10,900mAh battery — both support 45W fast charging with an optional power adapter.

Although the iPad Pros pack a 7,812mAh battery (11”) and a 9,720mAh battery (12.9”), iPadOS has more efficient power management capabilities. Both Galaxy Tab S7s and iPad Pros should be able to last most of the day between charging. Finally, the iPad Pro also comes with an 18W charger that supports fast charging, but Apple does not disclose the maximum power input.

With more powerful storage options and a more powerful chipset, it’s hard not to give Apple the edge when it comes to hardware.

Software

The Samsung Galaxy S7 comes with Android 10 along with the Samsung One User-Interface (UI). The latest update to Samsung’s One UI offers some useful features like automatic syncing across devices and integrated sync with Microsoft OneDrive, OneNote, and Outlook. Although Android 11 is available on certain Android devices already, Samsung has announced that it won’t update the Galaxy Tab S7 models until March 2021. Android 11 would bring a number of improved privacy, chat, and notification features.

Apple has always been known for its smooth, sleek user-interface — and nothing has changed. Coming standard with iPadOS with regular updates guaranteed, the iPad Pro’s operating system offers features like automatically converting handwriting to text, improved widgets, and an updated search and menu function.

Although there are some novelties to using a Galaxy Tab S7 that you won’t find in the iPad Pro, Apple still edges out the competition due to its more refined operating system, tight security, day one updates, and guaranteed operating system updates for at least a few years.

Cameras

The duo of Samsung Galaxy S7 tablets features a dual-camera stack with a 13MP primary lens and 5MP ultra-wide sensor. The front-facing camera clocks in at 8MP.

On the iPad Pro, you’ll find a larger camera bump than the S7 with a 12MP primary lens, 10MP ultra-wide lens, and a LiDAR scanner. The front camera has a 7MP sensor and TrueDepth camera for Apple’s Face ID.

The LiDAR scanner is used to determine the distance around objects and improve distance-measurement accuracy. Perhaps the key to Apple’s monopoly on the smartphone camera market, Apple’s iPad Pro has superior integrated camera technology in its flagship tablet — giving Apple the edge in the camera department.

The Winner?

The verdict is: there is no clear winner. The better tablet here depends on your needs. If you’re looking for a device to take your creative career to the next level or want a powerful laptop-replacement, an iPad Pro is your best option. Apple offers a more-refined OS, more options for creative applications, and the popular Magic Keyboard.

However, if you’re more interested in being as productive as possible, you might look into a Galaxy Tab S7 or S7+. The latest Galaxy Tab offers an amazing Super AMOLED display, plenty of RAM for multitasking, 5G options, and the ability to sync Samsung’s productivity apps with Microsoft Office.

iPad Air 4

November 5th, 2020 | Posted by Brian Kubala in Apple | iPad | Rental | Tablet | Tablet Rentals | Technology News - (0 Comments)

Introduced in September and formally released in October 2020, the iPad Air 4 is the latest tablet release from Apple. With a more modern design than the earlier generation, the iPad Air 4 features a similar design to the iPad pro, including a nearly edge-to-edge, 10.9” liquid retina LED display. The newest tablet from Apple also brings compatibility with features not seen on the previous generation of iPad Air, including compatibility with the new Magic Keyboard, the second-generation Apple Pencil, and USB-C. Let’s take a closer look at the new iPad Air 4.

Display and Design

As noted above, the iPad Air 4 boasts a 10.9” liquid retina LED display, similar to the one found in the current iPad Pro, however the display is capped at 60Hz, which is the same found in the previous generation of iPad Air. As far as the display, the 2360 x 1640 resolution absolutely delivers when it comes to the viewing experience. With the wide gamut of P3 color, the iPad Air 4 is able to offer better colors and contrast than the standard iPad. The display also features an anti-reflective coating, True Tone, and full lamination. The laminated display is especially stunning for those using the Apple Pencil, as the content appears closer to the screen. This simulates the feeling of writing on paper.

Also new to this generation of iPad Air, flat edges and slimmer bezels. This design was introduced in Apple’s 3rd generation of iPad Pro tablets, and it also being used on the iPhone 12. Paired with the nearly borderless screen, the iPad Air 4 feels like a modern tablet. Another bonus? Color options are available. The iPad Air 4 is available in silver, space gray, rose gold, green, and blue.

Performance

When compared to the regular iPad or even the previous generations of the iPad Air, the iPad Air 4 doesn’t do anything special that others can’t. However, moving to the A14 Bionic processor, the same chip found in the iPhone 12, the iPad Air 4 has a performance boost over the previous generation. According to Apple, this processor has double the graphics performance over the A12 processor, and is about 20% faster than the A13.

The iPad Air 4 features a 7-megapixel front-facing camera, perfect for those FaceTime calls in a time when we are relying on our tablets and phones to keep us connected to our friends, families, and coworkers. The new iPad Air 4 also boasts a 12MP camera that is capable of filming at 4K video. This is perfect for those who are film editors looking to do some work remotely, or students who are looking for a budget friendly tablet to learn the basics in the film editing industry.

Final Thoughts

With improved performance, better design, and a more beautiful display, the iPad Air 4 is worth a second look for those considering a tablet. It is a perfect fit for a mid-tier tablet between the regular iPad and the iPad Pro for those who are looking for performance, while still wanting to stay budget friendly.

Political opinion polling using tablet application

Candidates and their teams are constantly working to better understand the thoughts, motivations, and opinions of voters – and there’s no better place to do that than at campaign rallies and party events. While political opinion polling traditionally employed the use of pen and paper, relying on respondents to answer numerous questions put to them by a stranger, and depending on data entry volunteers to compile and translate all of the data later, tablet rentals and kiosk rentals are making the task less time-consuming and stressful. Read on to learn more about how tablet rentals and kiosk rentals make it easier for political campaigns and volunteers to conduct political opinion polling at rallies and party events. Make tracking data easier with Android or Apple applications!

Political opinion polling using tablet application

Roaming the crowd

For campaigns with a team of volunteers ready to hit the ground at campaign rallies and party events, tablet rentals allow participants to quickly and easily enter their responses to questions without your team members having to keep track of stacks of questionnaires. Our tablet rentals can even be preloaded with your voter polling software to allow for faster deployment.

For polls with more than just a few questions, our iPad Pro rentals offer a large display that makes answering dozens of questions easier. For ease of portability, iPad Mini rentals allow your volunteers to quickly conduct political opinion polls at your events. Check out Explore Your Bid for Office with iPads and iPhones to learn more about how mobile options can help your team connect with voters.

Self-serve options

When voters are approached directly by campaign workers or party affiliates with survey questions, they are less likely to give a true account of their opinion. Using self-serve options to conduct opinion polling allows campaigns to collect less biased opinions from those attending their party events and campaign rallies.

iPad kiosk rentals allow your respondents to give their true and anonymous opinion about the candidate, policy, platform, or party action. Setting up multiple iPad kiosk rentals near the entrance and exit points of your event allows attendees to participate in your opinion polls at their own pace – without pressure or unwanted attention. Read 4 Reasons iPad Rentals are Great for Marketing and Branding to learn more about using iPad rentals in polls and marketing.

Offer some incentive

Sometimes getting campaign and party event attendees to participate in opinion polls is more difficult than you’d think. While paying attendees to participate in political opinion polls is frowned upon, offering some incentive can help you get a greater response rate.

Charging station rentals can be outfitted with interactive iPad screens that allow attendees to complete political opinion polls while charging their cell phones or other mobile devices. Our charging station rentals also include a fully customizable wrap that be printed with your campaign’s logo or other messaging. Read Power Up Your Event with Charging Station Rentals for even more ideas for including charging stations at your event venue.

Charing station rentals pair well with tablet kiosks, and are great for creating branded event experiences.

Fully customizable

All of our kiosk rentals are fully customizable with your campaign’s logos. From kiosks to tables, and lockers, you can outfit your opinion polling station with your candidate’s logo or campaign message. The interactive touch screen on top of the kiosk can even be used to display your social media channels or latest campaign videos.

Rentacomputer.com can meet all of your campaign’s computer and event equipment rental needs. From social media walls and RFID printers to WiFi hotspot rentals and iPad rentals, we have the equipment you need and our skilled technicians ensure that all of your event technology rentals are delivered and properly set up. Best Small Tablets for 2018

March 23rd, 2018 | Posted by rreeve in Android | Apple | Tablet - (0 Comments)

A good tablet should offer its users a larger display than a smartphone, and more portability than a laptop. Tablets make for great kiosk displays, and custom software can often be loaded onto a tablet rental before an event that requires a lot of small screens in a whole lot of places.

A lot of recently produced  tablets have been transitioning to the two-in-one tablet design, where tablets often have their own detachable keyboards and maybe even have a stylus to make the tablet a more versatile, multi-purpose, laptop-like device.

While being able to use your tablet as a mobile typing-capable workstation is nice, sometimes you may just need portable rental tablets for your convention (maybe you have various workshops scattered throughout the building that your attendees need to take devices to), or if you are thinking more personally, maybe you just want a small device you can take on the plane to read your books on or watch your shows while you travel.

Whether you are looking for portable tablets to rent for a business event or if you are looking to buy a portable tablet that you can take with you on vacation, here is a list of the five best small (9 inch displays or smaller) tablets on the market.

  1. iPad Mini 4

While I am not an advocate of Apple’s OS on desktops and laptops, I can strongly endorse the stability and ease of use of its mobile iOS system. The iPad Mini 4 encapsulates Apple’s iOS in a 7.9 inch display that offers a brilliant resolution. As with most new Apple technology, the iPad Mini 4 also boasts two excellent cameras.

  1. Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 8

The antithesis of Apple’s  white iPad Mini, the Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 8 is a sleek black device with an 8 inch display. The device’s super AMOLED display makes it quite the looker. For anyone looking to purchase a small tablet for themselves, this tablet also features a custom fingerprint scanner that you can use as a login security measure.

  1. Huawei MediaPad M5 8.4

New tablet launches are scarce, but the Huawei MediaPad M5 is just that. The upcoming MediaPad M5 is a followup to the MediaPad M3, which was a widely praised Android tablet.

The M5’s screen has a 2560×1600 resolution and a 16:10 aspect ratio which makes it a great device for watching videos on. However, there is one massive drawback which also makes it not really all that great for video watching if you don’t have the proper adapter: the M5 does not have a traditional headphone jack. If you need a device that is headphone compatible without an adapter, maybe consider looking for a different device first.

  1. Asus ZenPad S 8.0

The third Android tablet on our list so far, the Asus ZenPad S 8.0 is a good alternative to the MediaPad M5 if you are looking for a similar device that actually has a headphone jack. Yes, that is a big deal to me if you couldn’t already tell. The ZenPad has an 8 inch display, a 1536 x 2048 resolution, and an average battery life of eight hours.

  1. NuVision 8” Tablet

While maybe not as deserving as some other options to be on this list, the NuVision got a spot because it is unique and it fills a void in the tablet market. The NuVision is a tablet that runs on Windows 10, has an 8 inch display, and a 1920 x 1200 resolution.

If you need a tablet with the windows OS, the NuVision series of tablets may be your best hope for a while if you are still looking for a small, portable device.

iOS and Android divide the tablet world between them. There is no third.

Or at least that is currently the case. Leaks (which may or may not be true) reveal that Microsoft may be throwing its hat back into the ring of the tablet market once again with a device presently being called the “Andromeda” by various tech blogs.

A woman drinking coffee while holding a tablet

If the leaks are true, then the most interesting thing about this new device is that Microsoft itself seems to be developing it. This is a pretty big step up for Microsoft’s involvement in the tablet industry, as Microsoft’s original tablet strategy was pretty much just to throw the operating system onto whatever device tablet manufacturing companies would allow to run it.

The Andromeda is rumored to be a foldable tablet device, similar to the Microsoft Courier. If you do not know what the Microsoft Courier is, that is probably because the Microsoft Courier never came out. The Courier was first reported all the way back in 2008 but was canned before it ever hit any shelves to be sold. Hopefully that does not happen to the Andromeda, but I could see Microsoft choosing to go that route. Anyway, here’s a concept rendering of the Andromeda from the leak:

Concept rendering of the Microsoft Andromeda

Since Microsoft did not officially announce the Andromeda, very little is known about the hardware the device will come equipped with, the price of the device, or even what size the device will be. However, leak information does point to the Andromeda having cellular capabilities, which means that it can send texts and calls out in place of your smartphone.

Whether Microsoft will be choosing to market this as more of a smartphone or a tablet remains to be seen, but I could personally see the device being paired off with a stylus and being marketed as an artsy tablet. That’s a far safer bet than expecting Microsoft to try the notebook-style Andromeda in the smartphone market, where Microsoft currently has virtually no presence. Not like Microsoft currently has much of a presence in the tablet market either if our tablet rental records are any indication of anything, but maybe that will change if the Andromeda comes to fruition.

Rugged tablets fill a small but important role in the tablet world. If you’ve never heard of a rugged tablet before, I cannot say that I blame you. Rugged tablets are tablets designed with durability as a primary focus. Rugged tablets do not receive anywhere near the same amount of attention seen whenever Apple or Samsung launches a new flagship tablet because rugged tablets are not really designed for the average tablet buyer.

A rugged tablet sitting by a hardhat

Since Samsung’s new rugged Galaxy Tab Active 2 was announced this week, I could think of no better time to talk about when you should consider getting a rugged tablet over a regular tablet.

Since I don’t want to waste too much of your time, let me preface this by saying that you probably will not need to get rugged tablets specifically. A standard tablet rental will most likely do you much more good if you are planning a conference or any sort of indoor event.

However, there are certain scenarios and criteria which can cause getting a rugged tablet rental to be the better of the two aforementioned choices. You might want to get a rugged tablet if you worry about your tablet dealing with any of the following:

•Rain

•Humidity

•Sand or Dust

•Repeated or continuous outdoor use

•Risk of the tablet being frequently dropped

•Vibrations (Rugged tablets can be mounted in vehicles)

There are some other factors that you might have to account for if you are looking for a seriously rugged tablet, such as whether or not the tablet can function after being subjected to high or low temperatures or altitudes, but more often than not those factors aren’t the deciding features.

Generally speaking, if you are working outdoors or in potentially hazardous environments and need access to computing technology, a rugged tablet will probably be the right choice for you.

The Lightest Tablets on the Market

July 12th, 2017 | Posted by rreeve in Rental | Tablet - (0 Comments)

If you are getting a tablet rental, you are probably doing so because you need a device which is compact, easy to use, and lightweight. There are a whole lot of tablets out on the market, and depending on whether or not you will need a specific operating system for your event, there may be a whole lot of tablets for you to choose from. One way to narrow down your search for the perfect tablet rental is by searching through tablets by weight. Since having a tablet which weighs five pounds isn’t very practical in most occasions, this article is dedicated to showing you some of the lightest tablets out on the market – or specifically tablets which all weigh under one pound.

Sony Xperia Z4

A picture of the Sony Xperia Touch.

The Sony Xperia Z4 is large but light, weighing less than a pound in both WiFi only and WiFi + cellular data variants. The Xperia has the largest display size in this article, coming in at 10.1 inches. If you are interested in this device, keep in mind that it runs on Android so if you have software which requires iOS, consider the next tablet on the list.

iPad Mini 4

A picture of several iPad Mini 4s

While Apple’s new iPad Pro is quite powerful, it weighs in just over one pound so I couldn’t put it on this list. However, if you need a lightweight iOS device the iPad Mini 4 may suit your iPad rental needs. The Mini 4 comes equipped with a 7.9 inch retina display and weighs .66 pounds for the WiFi only model and .67 pounds for the WiFi + cellular data model.

Samsung Galaxy Tab S3 9.7”

A picture of the Samsung Galaxy Tab S3

Weighing in at .95 pounds on the WiFi only variant, the Samsung Galaxy Tab S3 narrowly squeezes into this article. The S3 boasts a 9.7 inch Super AMOLED display. Samsung has been testing around with some new ideas with their tablets, and the S3 comes with a stylus called the S Pen and can also be coupled with a keyboard.

HP Pro Tablet 608 G1

The HP Pro Tablet 608 is what some might dub an “oldie but a goodie”. The 608 released back in 2015, but it is one of the only Windows tablets that I could find which weighs less than a pound. The 608 comes equipped with a 7.86 inch display and a version of Windows 10.

2017 has been an exciting year for Samsung so far. Back during the 2017 Mobile World Conference, Samsung unveiled three new tablets which are now currently available on the market. So cast aside your iPads, this article is all about three new Samsung tablets.

Samsung Galaxy Tab S3

The long awaited Samsung Galaxy Tab S3 is a worthy alternative to an iPad that has the looks to match its impressive hardware. Samsung Galaxy Tab S3 rentals come with:

  • Android 7.0 Nougat
  • Quad-core Snapdragon 820 Processor
  • 32 GB Storage
  • Micro-SD slots which can add up to an additional 2 TB of storage
  • 4 GB of RAM
  • Data compatible (4G LTE)
  • 9.7 inch AMOLED screen.

Samsung Galaxy Book 12

Although I am glad that the Samsung Galaxy Tab S series got a refresh, I find Samsung’s new contender to be a little more personally interesting. The Galaxy Book is not only a tablet, it is a 2-in-1 device. The Galaxy Book series runs Windows 10 and gives the Microsoft surface Pro some more competition. This tablet not only looks nice in its keyboard cover, but it also boasts some impressive specs, such as:

  • Windows 10 Operating System
  • 7th Generation Intel Core M3 Processor
  • 12 Inch AMOLED Display
  • 4 GB RAM or 8 GB RAM
  • 128 GB SSD or 256 SSD
  • Data Compatible (4G LTE)

Samsung Galaxy Book 10

The smaller of the two new Galaxy Book devices, the Samsung Galaxy Book 10 has some lighter hardware specs in exchange for more portability, which is what you might be seeking out of a tablet 2-in-1. Here are some of the specs:

  • Windows 10 Operating System
  • 7th Generation Intel Core M3 Processor (Same as the Galaxy Book 12)
  • 10.6 Inch LCD Display
  • 4 GB of Ram (Different from the Galaxy Book 12)
  • Choice between 64 GB or 128 GB of Storage (Different from the Galaxy Book 12)
  • Data Compatible (4G LTE)

Concluding Remarks

Samsung not only refreshed its wildly popular Galaxy Tab S lineup this year, it also threw out two solid 2-in-1 tablets. It should also be mentioned for anyone who uses styluses that all three of these devices carry over S Pen compatibility from previous iterations, so if you are worried about missing your stylus if you upgrade, don’t be.

Certain tablets fill roles better than others, and there are a lot of tablets available on the market, so finding exactly what you need may prove difficult. Here are a few things you should consider which will help you narrow down your search for tablet rentals.

1. Battery Life

When compared to laptops, tablets normally have much longer battery lives. However, if your event spans six hours or more you should probably start worrying about the battery lives of your devices. However, the battery life of your devices will largely depend on what you are using your tablets for. If you are only using tablets for web browsing and video streaming, you should be able to use your tablets for six hours easily, but if you are running more intensive software, you should start to worry about your tablet’s’ battery lives sooner.

2. Memory Space

Memory space is vital, and depending on whether not you can recharge your tablets, memory space may be your number one priority. If you plan on using custom applications you may want to have more storage space, such as 32 or even 128 gigabytes. Another thing to consider when thinking about memory is whether or not you will want to use Micro SD cards. Android tablets often have slots for Micro SD cards, while Apple’s iPads do not.

3. Operating System

The difference between Apple and Android does not stop at Micro SD card readers. I can never stress enough the importance of operating system selection. Although tablet operating systems can perform many of the same basic functions, there is a large degree of variation in things such as security and application compatibility. Know what you need for the apps you need before getting a tablet rental.

Final Tip

One last tip, if your attendees are going to be working on tablets a lot during your event, you’ll probably want something that is keyboard and maybe even mouse compatible.

Durability and Tablet Rentals

March 13th, 2017 | Posted by rreeve in Rental | Tablet - (0 Comments)

While it is normally easy to find what processor, screen size, and amount of RAM a device comes with, it is typically harder to find out whether or not your device can survive being dropped 4 feet without finding out for yourself (Pro tip: don’t test to see if your tablet can survive a 4 foot drop, there’s a high probability that it will not). You may not always need a tablet rental which is ultra-durable but it’s always good to know whether or not your tablet can survive basic every-day interactions, such as being slid across a desk or falling 4 feet.

Since our company doesn’t revolve around technology durability, we’ll be referencing information provided in an experiment by SquareTrade, a technology protection and repair company, which compared the durability of multiple tablets. The three durability tests which can easily happen in real-life scenarios are the slide test, the 4 ft drop test, and the water submersion test. These experiments happened in late 2014, but some tablet models have remained mostly the same externally over the passage of time. The three tablets we will be comparing are the iPad Air 2, the Samsung Galaxy Tab S 8.4, and the Microsoft Surface Pro 3.

Four Foot Drop Test

Generally speaking, the larger the tablet the less likely it is to survive a four foot drop onto a cement floor. The Samsung Galaxy Tab S 8.4 was the smallest device, and it was also the only one of our three devices which sustained no damage from the drop test. The iPad Air and the Surface Pro 3 both had their screens shattered upon impact.

Slide Test

If you are a fan of sliding your tablet screen-down on a table, you should probably stop, or consider getting a Surface Pro rental. Sadly, SquareTrade did not provide much detail on how the scoring for this specific test was done, so don’t try sliding your Surface Pro around just to see how it holds up. The experiments did however say that the Surface Pro handled this test the best, followed by the Galaxy Tab, and then the iPad Air.

Water Submersion Test

If your tablet is ever underwater, it’s probably because you accidentally dropped it first. However for this test, tablets were purposely submerged in 3 inches of water for 10 seconds. The Samsung Galaxy Tab came out of this test unscathed. The Apple Air 2 was also operable after submersion, but the Surface Pro had a system failure after the test.

Conclusion

The Samsung Galaxy Tab held out the best overall in terms of durability, with the iPad Air 2 providing a middle-ground and the Surface Pro 3 coming in last. Durability isn’t everything of course, for your tablet rentals you may need more intense internal hardware like what is provided in Surface Pro models. If you only need durability however, get a rugged tablet rental. Rugged tablets are specifically made for the harshest work environments, and are much more durable than the standard consumer-grade tablet.
